When you creating or editing a discussion topic you have the option of including a website hyperlink and some helpful hover text.
In this article we will show you how to add both, and how to add just hover text over a word or sentence - when a participant hovers over the text it shows a short description or title.
Once you have added you text into the topic highlight the text you would like to be your link and click on the hyperlink icon in the topic content controls. By clicking on the hyperlink icon you will open the link window where you can add your website link and hover text.

Add the website address in the Link URL field, select the target option to 'Open Link in a New Window' - this will ensure participants do not lose the discussion board from their web browser. Next add some instructional text to the 'Title' field. Participants will see the title text when they hover over the link you have created. You might like to add some instructions such as: "Please click on this link to go to the upload page".

Finish by clicking 'Insert' on the hyperlink window. Once you have saved your link, save the discussion topic and you are ready to go!
When the participant hovers over the link your title text will be displayed. When they click on the link it will open the website address in a new tab window in their web browser.
Sometimes you might want to just add some definition or help text over a word, phrase or sentence.
You do this by repeating the above process except instead of placing a website address in the Link URL field just add a couple of hash tags "##". In the target field leave this set to "--not set--". In the Title field add the text you want displayed when they hover over the linked text.

Finish by clicking 'Insert' on the hyperlink window. Once you have saved your link, save the discussion topic and you are ready to go!
When the participant hovers over the link your title text will be displayed. When they click on the link it will not be active and they will stay on the topic.
